Pet behaviour clinics

I qualified as a Veterinary Nurse in 2001 and over the years became increasingly interested in animal behaviour. I am particularly interested in how the bond between animal and owner can break down as a result of an unusual or ‘problem’ behaviour. By addressing the behaviour problem at its root cause the bond can be restored leading to better welfare for both pet and owner.

As this interest developed and I began to appreciate a wider range and increase in number of behaviour problems, upon which I decided to further my knowledge in the area.

In 2011 I completed an ESPVS Nurse Certificate in Animal Behaviour and in 2014 completed the COAPE 2 Year Higher Diploma in Animal Behaviour and Training (QCF 5).

Making an appointment

If you are a client of Ashworth Veterinary Group simply ring and request a pre-consultation questionnaire. Once this is completed and returned I will contact you to discuss the case further and arrange a consultation.

If your pet is registered with another veterinary surgery please make an appointment with them for a full check over (this is to rule out any medical conditions which may be affecting your pets behaviour) and request a referral. Once we receive the referral request I will send you a questionnaire to complete and then on receipt of this will call to discuss the case and arrange a consultation.

What to expect

Depending on the case consultations may be carried out at your home or at the surgery. It is often preferable to carry them out in the home so I can assess your pet in their own environment.

I will go through the history using the questionnaire, this allows me to expand on areas I feel warrant further questioning. I may also request we require investigation such as video/audio recording to assess problem behaviours.

At the end of the consultation we will formulate an appropriate and achievable modification plan together. I will send you home with a brief action point from which will be followed up with a full written report. A report will also be sent to your veterinary surgeon.
